On September 21, 2023, on the occasion of World Peace Day, Shujaa Initiative brought together young people in a war displaced camp located in the North Kivu province, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This event was an opportunity to reflect on crucial issues such as peace, resilience and hope, in a context marked by recurring armed conflicts.

Under clear skies, the young participants engaged in informal discussions about their daily lives, while focusing on specific challenges related to peace in their community and the environment. Through exchanges of ideas and testimonies, they expressed their desire for a peaceful future, while sharing their experiences and aspirations.

This moment of conviviality helped to strengthen the bonds between these young people, often marked by trauma linked to war and the harsh effects of climate change which is causing further harm in their camp.

In a symbolic gesture, Shujaa initiative also distributed first aid kits to young survivors of violence, highlighting the importance of solidarity and mutual aid in building peace. This donation was not only material, but represented a glimmer of hope for those who live the consequences of conflict and climate crisis on a daily basis.
